Many of the big US airlines are bringing in new health and safety policies for both passengers and cabin crew this week. Face masks or other face covering will be required at check-in areas, lounges, boarding gate areas, and onboard planes for the entirety of the flight. Major carriers such as American and United say these are temporary measures as they slowly resume flights.
“We are looking at our customers’ well-being to give them piece of mind while they travel with us.” said Kurt Stache, a spokesman for American Airlines.
“Face coverings will be mandatory for all passengers, and (we) will provide masks to passengers for free,” said Maddie King, a spokeswoman for United Airlines.
Passengers are also being encouraged to pack their own food and drinks to decrease contact.
